Excellent.

Like most of what bedevils higher education, though, all this starts much much earlier. easily in middle and high school, often even in the primary grades. Your students are arriving already programmed to perform meaningless (to them) actions for the reward of a grade. And sadly for many the absence of visible connection between the content of those classes and tangible financial reward, even in the form of a job bought with the diploma, further erodes what should be a naturally human interest or curiosity.
