How Does This End?

It doesn’t. America is at a strange stalemate.

On Covid: Half of America refuses the antidote to a virus the other half of America understands might kill them. It’s clear that anti-vaxxers cannot be convinced otherwise. There will be no great awakening or sudden change of reason and they will continue to resist until their last breath.

There’s not much that can be done. In pockets all over the nation, whether it’s a state or town, company or small business, vaccination mandates will be enforced to various degrees, but the country can never overcome the hurdle of half its population. Where the vaccinated community is large, mandates will probably be stronger than they need to be, fervent among the already fervent. Where the anti-vax crowd dominates, don’t expect much conversion, suspicion among the already suspicious.

Logically, the Covid crisis settles slowly and never ends, with a lot of Republicans dying from a disease they refuse to allow exists.

They will never admit Covid is what it is. Because people die anyway, from all kinds of things, and in many cases those who are killed by Covid were already under assault by other illnesses that can be blamed. Because Covid ‘only’ kills about 1 or 2 percent of the people who get it, anti-vaxxers can build enough of an emotional, anecdotal defense against the…
