I'm not sure Mad Men is a good example of idealization. There's a kind of surface appeal to Draper's drinking and ease and power, but most of the details are hardly meant to be appealing, unless you still think people should be openly sexist and racist, domineer their wives, and drink and smoke on the job, in the car, and when pregnant, among other things.
