In a system designed to exclusively produce a small number of elite professionals, that's what you'll get, at the expense of everyone else. It's also not really working that well for society as a whole. We currently have shortages, not only of doctors, but also nurses, receptionists, radiologists, and so on. We also neglect, by design, anyone not inclined to that direction (an inclination, incidentally, that favors birth and class more than actual ability or interest).

I think we would actually produce more professional experts if we abandon the age-based classroom, not less.
