'Old School teaching methods' are, at best, a few hundred years old and designed specifically to cater to a highly select group of individuals for a very narrow set of professions and class groups. The 'old school' classroom works quite well if you wish to become an academic, and to some degree acts as a decent filter weeding out individuals for some professions like medicine.

But it's not at all the way most people ever got their experience, skills, or knowledge. Most people through history got their education outside school, individually from experienced adults.

Even up to the 1940s, the majority of Americans stopped sitting in lecture style classrooms by 8th grade.

The 'old school classroom' is actually rather new, and already outdated.
