I wonder, though, if our commitment to competition and college isn't a result of our current structure rather than driven by it. We are beholden to this system without any genuine thought towards its value, but education is entirely about value and worth. And so we end up emphasizing aspects like college and competition, which aren't inherently bad, so far that they end up being harmful.
